U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, a key ally of President Donald Trump and one of the Republican Party’s most influential foreign policy voices, has died at the age of 71 following a brief and sudden illness, according to a statement from his office.

Graham, who represented South Carolina in the U.S. Senate since 2003, was widely regarded as one of Trump’s closest allies on Capitol Hill. Known for his hawkish foreign policy positions, he was a vocal supporter of Israel and consistently advocated for strengthening the U.S.-Israel alliance while taking a hard line against Iran, Hamas and Hezbollah.

His office said Graham passed away on Saturday evening after a “brief and sudden illness.” No further details on the cause of death were immediately released. His family requested privacy during this difficult time.

Graham’s death is expected to have significant political implications in Washington, where he served for more than two decades as one of the Senate’s most prominent Republican lawmakers. (Newswire)
