KIA welcomes new air service Edelweiss Airlines on its maiden flight with a water salute
With the arrival of winter, the first flight of a new air service from Zurich, Switzerland arrived at Katunayake International Airport (KIA) yesterday morning (01).
For this maiden flight, Edelweiss Airlines used Airbus A 330 type aircraft and Katunayake airport authorities had taken steps to welcome the new air service with a water salute as is customary.
On the Edelweiss airline W.K.-68 flight which arrived at the Katunayake Airport at 9:20 a.m. yesterday (01), there were 17 business class passengers and 221 economy class passengers with 13 crew members, a total of 251.
This aircraft which will arrive at the Katunayake Airport on a direct flight from Zurich every Friday is scheduled to depart from Katunayake Airport at 10:05 a.m. on the same day returning to Zurich via Male city in the Maldives Islands.
These airlines are scheduled to arrive at Katunayake Airport from Zurich two days a week beginning from January 2025 onwards, on Fridays and Sundays.
Also, the aircraft of this winter airline service will be in operation till the month of May 2025.
