Kidney patients to receive monthly allowance

Steps are being taken to present kidney patients with a Rs.3000 allowance monthly, starting Monday.

Minister of Social Services and Welfare P. Harrison said that the allowance is given in order to assist the patients with their medical treatment.

The minister said that the programme will commence in Polonnaruwa on Monday under the patronage of His Excellency President Maithripala Sirisena.

The President further stated that in the past twelve to thirteen years about 20,000 to 25,000 people have died due to diseases of the kidney.
