Killer Whale Acquatics secures top spot in Senior Nationals

Killer Whale Aquatics (KWA), the reigning champions in both men’s and women’s categories at the Senior Nationals, continued their outstanding performance on the third day of the Sri Lanka National Swimming Championship at Hillwood College Swimming Pool in Kandy.

On this day, KWA clinched five gold medals, two silver, and two bronze, securing the top spot on the medal tally.

The gold medalists for KWA included Hiruki de Silva, Ganga Seneviratne, Kyle Abeysinghe, Matthew Abeysinghe, and the men’s relay team.

In a thrilling final of the women’s 50m butterfly, Hiruki de Silva claimed the gold medal with a time of 29.15. Nabhashie Perera from Sirimavo Bandaranaike Vidyalaya took the silver in 29.50, while Jessie Seneviratne of Holy Family Convent Bambalapitiya secured the bronze with a time of 29.80.

Ganga Seneviratne added another gold to KWA’s tally by winning the women’s 100m backstroke in 1:04.74. Kaitlyn de Zilwa of Stafford International School took silver in 1:07.81, and Sithuki Yonara of Asian International School (AIS) won the bronze in 1:09.90.

In the men’s 100m backstroke KWA trio, Matthew Abeysinghe, an Olympian, dominated, winning the gold in 56.59. Heshan Karuanratne secured the silver with a time of 1:00.32, while Adeetha Siriwardana won the bronze in 1:00.50.

KWA continued its dominance in the men’s 200m freestyle, claiming all three medals. Kyle Abeysinghe took gold in 1:55.93, Binura Thalagala secured silver in 1:56.38, and Anusara Abeygoonawardane won bronze in 1:56.95.

The men’s 800m freestyle relay saw KWA’s quartet, consisting of Binura Thalagala, Adeetha Siriwardane, Anusara Abeygoonawardane, and Heshan Karunaratne, winning the gold in 8:09.71. Ananda College and the Maldives secured silver and bronze, respectively.

In the men’s 50m butterfly final, Sri Lanka Army’s SS Senarathne claimed gold in 25.11, Yonal Silva of Lyceum International School Wattala won silver in 26.20, and Maldives’ Mohamed Aan Hussain secured bronze with a time of 27.06.
