The defending Senior National Champions, Killer Whale Aquatics (KWA), continued their outstanding performance by securing seven more gold medals on Day Two of the Sri Lanka National Short Course Swimming Championship held at Hillwood College Swimming Pool Complex in Kandy.
On Day Two, KWA’s senior swimmers showcased their prowess, winning seven gold medals, two silver medals, and one bronze medal. This added to their impressive Day One achievements of six golds, three silvers, and four bronzes, bringing their total gold medal count to 13 and leading the medal tally in the senior nationals. KWA’s Kyle Abeysinghe claimed gold in the men’s 100m freestyle senior national final with a remarkable time of 50.70. Anusara Abeygoonawardane secured another gold for KWA in the men’s 400m senior national Individual Medley with a time of 4:44.54.
In the women’s events, Hiruki de Silva clinched gold in the 100m senior national final, and Ganga Senevirtane secured gold in the women’s 50m backstroke senior national final.
Olympic swimmer Matthew Abeysinghe, representing KWA, triumphed in the men’s 50m backstroke senior national final with a gold medal and a time of 25.72. The relay teams of KWA also shone, with the women’s 200m freestyle relay quartet and men’s 200m freestyle relay quartet both securing gold medals. In addition to KWA’s dominant performance, Visakha Vidyalaya, Asian International School (AIS), and Zahira College each claimed one gold medal on the second day.
Christina Perumal of AIS, participating in her first senior national, won gold in the women’s 200m breaststroke senior national final. Zahira College’s MF Muhammad, also making his debut, secured gold in the men’s 200m breaststroke senior national final.
