Kingswoodian Asiri Seneviratne a superb fly half

Twenty year old, Asiri Seneviratne is an old boy of Kingswood College,Kandy who started Rugby from Grade four onwards and his first Coach was Rohith Mendis and later on he was coached by Ananda Kasthutiarachchi at junior level.

He played as fly-half through-out his Rugby career in School and had the privilege of Captaining the School from Under Twelve to Under Eighteen Rugby teams except Under 15 team. In the year 2016 he started playing for the First Fifteen Rugby team under Sachintha Udagalahitiyawa and in the following year he played under Heshan Janson and the Kingswood Rugby team emerged champions at the Dialog Super Sevens beating St.Josephs’ College,Colombo in the finals ( 7 – 5 points).

In 2018 he played under the captaincy of Tharindu Weligampola and then he played under Milan Weerasinghe before getting the Captaincy in the year 2020. Under his Captaincy some of the team members were Dinal Ekanayake, Rana Rahuman and Chetiya and due to Covid epidemic only a few matches were played in that year/ When Asiri was captaining the Under 16 Rugby team they played at the Sri Lanka Schools Super Sevens tournament and beat St.Josephs’ and his team became Champions in the Under 19 Asia Cup Division II Fifteen a side Rugby Tournament held in China by beating China and Philippines and emerged Champions. Sri Lanka Rugby team was captained by Royalist, Thulaib Hassan. two of his team mates, Milan Weerasinghe and Dinal Ekanayake of Kingswood were also in that team.

Although he was coached by the above mentioned Rugby coaches at the early stages in Rugby later on he was coached by Dinesh Gamage and Indunil Wickremasinghe and some of his other coaches were Gayan Weeraratne, Nilfer Ibrahim and Anuja Mallawarachchi and Ronnie Ibrahim was the Rugby consultant. Asiri has joined the Kandy Sports Club and at present he is in the Rugby Pool

Coached by Fazil Marija assisted by Buddhika Thalgampola and his intention Is to improve his talent in Rugby and represent Sri Lanka through his hard training at Kandy Sports Club.
