Kinniya UC Chairman remanded over ferry incident

The Kinniya Urban Council Chairman was remanded till December 9 by the Trincomalee Chief Magistrate over the ferry capsize that took place in the Kurinyankerni lagoon.

Six persons including four children were killed and 20 persons were injured when the boat capsized in the lagoon. The UC Chairman was arrested for allegedly giving permission to operate the ferry unsafely.

Meanwhile, three persons, including the owner of a ferry who were arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident were ordered to be remanded until December 8 on being produced before the Trincomalee Court.
