The newly constructed computer laboratory of the Kiribathawila Junior School was inaugurated on January 22, 2025, with the cooperation of the Principal, the school’s staff, alumni, parents, and students.
This significant project received complete financial support from Werner, Birgit Falkenstern and Kurt Merkle three German Nationals along with and several of their friends.
Originally started in 1912 as Halpathota C.C. School, the Kiribathawila Junior School is located in the Baddegama Education Division of the Galle District. The school currently educates approximately 120 students from low-income families in the plantation sector. Until 2019, it had only two buildings constructed around 1919.
Under the coordination of Deputy Principal L. H. K. Nimal Abeyweera, and through donations from Werner and Birgit Falkenstern, a new science laboratory was constructed in 2019, the first building after a century. Following Abeyweera’s sudden demise in 2020, his family and Falkenstern continued their support, resulting in a new music room in 2023 and now this fully equipped computer laboratory.
