KMC ruling party and opposition engaged in a protest

Although officials are obligated to implement decisions made in the council by councilors who are voted in by the people as their representatives, three officials including the Municipal Commissioner are acting against decisions of the council and is carrying out operations at the council according to their own choices, the Deputy Mayor Ilahi Aabdeen said.

Opposition Leader at the KMC Kesara Senanayake said that tax payers come to the Municipal Council and spend hours due to the non-caring attitude of officials and the Planning Division of the council is full of corruption.

Although the Commissioner had implemented a procedure to speak to people and inquire about their requirements and then refer them to the relevant sections stating that a more active service will be provided to them while following health protection rules in the face of Covid 19

situation, the Opposition Leader said that it has been a total failure.

Employees of the Municipal Council had taken steps to dismantle and remove the office which had been maintained for providing relevant services to the people, in the building where the entrance to the council based on instructions of the councilors.

Municipal Commissioner Amila Navaratne said that based on an agreement reached at the council, a separate office had been established in order to inquire into the needs of people who arrive at the Municipal Council and to refer them to the relevant section since about one year ago, as a result of Covid 19 situation and to ensure the safety of the staff of the Municipal Council as well as the public.
