Kurunegala teacher further remanded in bribery case

A teacher of a major school in Kurunegala, who was arrested on charges of seeking a bribe of Rs.300,000 to enroll a student in the GCE Advanced Level Arts stream, was ordered to be further remanded till March 7 by Colombo Chief Magistrate Prasanna Alwis yesterday.

The Bribery Commission took the suspect school teacher into custody on February 8, following information received that he had sought the aforementioned sum as a bribe. Bribery Commission officials informed the Magistrate that the teacher has been serving as the sectional head of the Advanced Level Arts stream.
