Kurunegala – Youth Services Netball Champs

The Kurunegala district Netball team led by Hiruni Heshani emerged champions of the Youth Services Netball Championship held at National Youth Services Centre Maharagama on Sunday .

In the final Kurunegala district team coached by Amalka Gunatilleka defeated Colombo town youth team with a gap of 20 points 65-45 to clinch the title comfortably.

Kurunegala district team comprising Holy Family Convent ( HFC) Kurunegala players dominated the tournament having an early lead from the start of the final.

Sanithma and Akithma Abeysinghe (twin sisters) and goal shooter Bhashi Udagedera who was a member of Asian youth Netball team played well while the champion team was well handled by skipper Hiruni Heshani who was the last time Netball queen at the Netball junior Nationals.

Earlier Jaffna district team had a thrilling five points win over Kalutara district team in the third place game at the same venue.
