Labourer who stole B-onions worth Rs. 1.2 mn arrested

A labourer in Maradana has been arrested by the Police for allegedly stealing big onions worth around Rs.1.2 million   belonging to a businessman in Wellawatta, who had rented a store at the Railway Stores in Maradana. Another suspect involved in the theft has fled the area. The Police said the stolen big onions had been sold again.

The businessman was a wholesale distributor of imported potatoes, onions and rice.

After detecting that 150 bags each containing 25kgs of big onions and another 50 bags each containing 12kgs of red onions were missing, the businessman had complained to the Police.

The suspect who was arrested by the Police had confessed that he stole the goods with another labourer. He was to be produced before Court. It was revealed that two security guards of the Railway Department had assisted the suspects. Police are on the look out to arrest them and the other suspect who has fled the area.
