Lack of medical reports in over 100 alleged rape cases
The Police and Courts have not received the reports relating to allegations of rape in 106 cases in the Kilinochchi district, within the last three years (2020 to 2022), from the respective hospitals, and so it has not been possible to file charges against the accused, it is reported.
This was revealed in the recent Kilinochchi District Development Committee meeting and the officials who raised the issue pointed out that the lack of reports requested by the police and the courts regarding the accused and the victims, is a huge problem.
Northern Provincial Health Services Director P. Sathyamurthi said at the meeting that the transfer of forensic medical officers and the transfer of other doctors have greatly affected this issue and the lack of staff in Kilinochchi hospitals is also the reason for the delay in these medical reports.
However, he promised that he would personally look into this matter and make the reports available to the Courts and relevant Police stations before August 31.
