Ladies’-Bishop’s annual hockey clash today

Ladies’ College will take on the traditional rivals Bishop’s College in their 16th annual Under-19 hockey encounter at the Astro Turf in Reid Avenue, today.

This event has been revived after a lapse of two years with the Under-19 match scheduled to commence at 4.00 p.m. after the Under-17 fixture between the two schools, which begins at 2.00 p.m.

The Ladies’ College Under-19 Hockey Team will be Captained by Seneca Dissanayake while the Bishop’s College Under-19 Hockey Team will be led by Onaya Kulatunge.

Bishop’s College won the 2019 encounter and will be brimming with confidence with a couple of senior players in their ranks including centre Shenalee Fernando, Ayangee Abeykoon and left defender Tisari Vidanagamage. Meanwhile, Ladies’ College will bank on their experienced players Thimanya Ellepola, Dehera Senaratne and Anya Fernando as they look to regain the Trophy after their success in the 2018 fixture.

This event was inaugurated in 2005 and since then Ladies’ College have won eight matches while Bishop’s College have triumphed on five occasions. The two teams shared the Trophy in 2010 and 2014 while the match was not held in 2020 and 2021.
