Lakmali Rajapaksha the athletic, volleyball and cricket star from Nugawela

Right hand middle order bat, right arm medium pace bowler, safe fielder in any position, , under 19 cricket captain of the school and present member of the Colombo Colts Club ladies team, athlete, volleyball, Elle and kabaddi player Rajapaksha Pathiranalage Lakmali Rajapaksha has brought honour and immense glory to Nugawela Balika Vidyalaya and Nugawela Central College respectively with her deeds in the field of sports.

Lakmali was born on 10 th December 1998 and entered Nugawela Balika Vidyalaya in 2004 and her first class teacher was Mrs. Darshani. She commenced sports in 2009 and took part at the inter house sports meet in putt shot, discus throw and Javelin in the under 12 age group and won places and up to Grade 10 she continued to participate in the inter house sports meets and in the final year she swept the board in her pet events and her teacher in Charge was Mrs. Nimali.

In the mean time when she was in Grade 8 she started to play volleyball and played for the school team and represented it at the Divisional, Zonal, District and Provincial Tournaments and her coach was Mr. Abeyrathne and to enhance her sports career her parents Mihira Rajapaksha and Amitha Chandrakanthi made arrangements to admit their daughter to Nugawela Central College and over there she was selected to the rugger team in the inter house teams annually and her Master in Charge was Mr. Kasun and she represented the school and divisional, zonal, district and provincial tournaments in all these age groups and in Elle they went up to provincial tournaments and in Kabbadi she played for the school team and she represented up to under 19 and participated in tournaments.

Her first year in the school cricket team was in 2013 and she was selected for the under 17 team and her first tournament was the All Island Tape Ball Tournament and participated for the All Island Tournaments and her coach was Mr. Lalith and in 2014 she played for the hard ball team and they came up to the All Island Quarter Finals and from 2016 to 2018 they came up to quarter finals and teacher in Charge was Mrs. Milani. She captained the under 19 school team and won school cricket colours and played in the Big Matches in 2017 and 2018 against St. Anthony’s Girls School Kandy and she scored 43 and 53 runs respectively. Whilst at school she represented the Kandy District Team in 2016 and represented the Central Province Team in 2017 and in 2018 and 2019 for the Super Provincial teams and her team was victorious in 2018. She joined the Kurunegala Young Cricket Club ladies team in 2019 and her team reached up to the finals and

representing Chilaw Marians they were the runners up. From there she shifted to Athurugiriya Homagama and played for the Sky Cricket Club and from there she was selected for the Ladies Cricket Tour of Dubai in 2022 and played in six matches and in was a fine exposure to her and after returning playing in the Red Bull Campus Tournament she claimed five wickets in a match and presently she is a member of the Colombo Colts Ladies Cricket Team under Cambrian Kanishka Perera and participated for the recently held RU Sixes Tournament.
