Manju Lalith Warna Kumara has been appointed as a member of Parliament to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Mahinda Samarasinghe, the Sri Lankan Ambassador-designate to the United States of America (USA).
The National Elections Commission announced that the Gazette notification on the appointment will be issued today. Manju Lalith Warna Kumara was the next in line of the SLPP Kalutara District preferential vote list.
Samarasinghe resigned from his Parliamentary seat on November 25 to take up the diplomatic posting in Washington. He said that President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has requested him to take up the position, and he accepted that request.
The new MP will take oaths before Speaker Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena this week.
