The Annual General Meeting of the Lanka Japan Friendship society will be held on Friday November 26, 2023 at 6.pm onwards at Sasakawa Hall, Colombo 3.
Ambassador for Japan for Sri Lanka Mizukoshi Hideaki will be the Chief Guest for the event. The Ceylon – Japan Friendship Society (as it was originally called) was inaugurated around February 1956 when Japan was emerging as an industrial nation to be reckoned with in international circles.
Annual events such as the Cultural Exhibition (Bonsai, Ikebana, Origami etc,) the Japanese Emperors Birthday and Sri Lanka’s Independence Day celebrations along with many CSR events too were organized by the society. Among the many projects envisaged included, the naming of the Lanka – Japan Friendship Mawatha and cultural and aesthetic exchanges between the two countries. Generous donations in cash were made by the membership for the relief of suffering. Japanese Yen 7.5 million was also donated by the Japan – Sri Lanka Association and was utilized for construction of tsunami relief houses.
