Lanka Salt Company for the second year in succession paid a bonus of Rs. 43 million to 1,600 of its employees yesterday. This is after the company made a record profit of Rs. 170 million for 2021 so far.

“This would be equivalent to their one month salary,” said Chairman of Lanka Salt Company Nishantha Sandabarana. He said that this profit was achieved after settling Rs. 300 million loans due to banks and also settling some other dues as well. “After President Gotabaya Rajapaksa decided to ban the import of salt which is a very practical move we stepped up our operations and fulfilled the demand,” he told ‘Daily News Business’

“Now I am planning to acquire a 400 acre land in Puttalam belonging to the Minister of Industries and turn it into a large salt plain. This is mainly to export salt. Our Company had incurred a loss of Rs. 262 million on average each year under the previous government and we have turned it around.”
