Sri Lanka under 19 has a good chance to get more exposure from this Pakistan tour before the under 19 Asia Cup and world cup said Sri Lanka under 19 cricket team manager Jayantha Seneviratne in an exclusive interview with Daily News yesterday.
Actually the Under 19 players are our future and we have to groom them very carefully while Sri Lanka Cricket gives maximum support to arrange this type of tours to get more experience .We played successful one day and four day series against West Indies at Dambulla which we won and now we already started one and only four day game against Pakistan at Karachi followed by five one day games said former Sri Lanka player Jayantha Seneviratne the Manager of the team .
We have 16 member team on this tour captained by Royal College Colombo opener Sineth Jayawardena. We brought same squad which we played against West Indies while only one player paceman Manula Kularatne from Trinity replaced an injured paceman .The selectors have made a decision to give more match practice to focus on Asia Cup and World cup . Asia Cup in December in Bangladesh while Sri Lanka host the under 19 world cup in next January.
Pakistan Cricket Board has provided good security for us to play our matches . we had two day training sessions before this only four day game while our preparation in Sri Lanka was interrupted by rain and we were at Pallekele for training and our team is ready to play this Pakistan tour while they all realize this tour give much needed experience. The Karachi wicket is flat and we can see high scoring games and we have talented batters like Dinura Kalupahana, Pulindu Perera,Sineth J ayawardena,Malsha Tharupathi he said
The supporting staff headed by coach Jehan Mubarak, Assistant coach Sampath Perera,Bowling coach Chamila Gamage, fielding coach Gayan Wijekoon are busy with the players and my duty as manager of under 19 is to protect the players as they are still schoolboys who should be physically and mentally fit to play the matches. I have lot of experience and SLC has confidence in me .I was the coach of Mahela Jayawardena ,Shantha Kalawitigoda, Ishara Amarasinghe when they played for Nalanda and they got chance to get National cap while most of the Sri Lanka players today played under my Manager post during their under 19 National team period and player management is not easy but we have to handle them carefully concluded Team Manager Jayantha
