Lanka welcomes millionth tourist after 2019
Maintaining the upward trend in tourist arrivals, Sri Lanka welcomed the one millionth tourists yesterday at Katunayake International Airport.
A Russian national, Alex Mazkov, who arrived at the Katunayake Airport yesterday (26) with his wife and two children, was welcomed as Sri Lanka’s one-millionth tourist. The family came to Oman from Russia and then arrived at Katunayake Airport at 2.10 pm by Oman Airline WY-373 flight from Muscat.
Sri Lanka Tourism Development Promotion Authority Director Dr. Prasad Jayasekara said that this is the first time since 2019 that Sri Lankan tourist arrivals had exceeded one million. Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau organized a special ceremony at the airport’s arrivals terminal to celebrate this milestone. Mazkov and his family were warmly welcomed by officials and presented with traditional Sri Lankan garlands and souvenirs.
Sri Lanka is targeting over 1.5 million arrivals for this year and revenue in the excess of USD 2.2 billion this year. The main market up to date remains India.
