Lawrence Madiwela’s funeral today

The Former Acting Chief Minister of the Western Province and who held various Ministerial positions, a senior member of the United National Party, Lawrence Madiwela (83 years old) passed away.

Starting his sixty-five year political career, he was brought up as a Village councillor and chairman of Hendala Village Council, Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha member and became a Minister after winning the first provincial council election. He has held the positions of Member, Minister and Acting Chief Minister except for the last Western provincial council term. A devout Christian, he has served as a founding member and chairman of Christ the King society in Nayakakanda Parish and in various religious and social service organizations in Hendala, holding various offices regardless of party, religion, caste differences.

He is also known to be a political and social worker who maintained good relations with newspaper organizations and journalists.

Madiwala’s remains will be at Borella A.F. Raymond funeral parlour today 13, for public respect and the last rites will be done at Nayakakanda Catholic Cemetery, Hendala, Wattala at 3:00 p.m.
