Lawyer on bail in forged birth certificate case

An indictment was delivered yesterday (11) under seven charges against a lawyer in connection with an incident of fraudulently preparing a birth certificate reflecting his age as three years younger than the actual age, while having his valid birth certificate with the real age, before North Central High Court Judge Viraj Ranatunga.

The charges were handed over to Susil Krishan Siriwardena, a lawyer from Anuradhapura. After reading the charges to the defendant’s lawyer and handing them over, the defendant informed the High Court through senior lawyer Ranjith Rajakaruna that he is innocent of all the charges levelled against him.

The High Court Judge who ordered the release of the accused lawyer on bail ordered the case to be called again on March 7, 2024.

Defendant lawyer Susil Krishan Siriwardena was also ordered to appear before the High Court on that day. It was revealed in the Court that a regular birth certificate has been issued under number 3621 in relation to the correct date of birth of the defendant lawyer which is June 17, 1980 and another false birth certificate has been issued under number 317 stating that he was born on January 29, 1983.

It has been revealed that the full name of the accused lawyer’s legal birth certificate is written as Siriwardena Mudiyanselage Susil Kumara Siriwardena and the full name of Siriwardena Mudiyanselage Susil Krishan Siriwardena is mentioned as the full name on the forged birth certificate.

It has also been revealed that the defendant lawyer has prepared a national identity card in relation to his regular birth certificate and another national identity card in relation to the fake birth certificate and has used the national identity card prepared in relation to the fake birth certificate to obtain a foreign passport and travelled abroad using that foreign passport.

Meanwhile, the Anuradhapura Special Crime Investigation Division has revealed that the accused lawyer has given the forged birth certificate to the law school in the investigations carried out in this connection.
