The Western Province South Crime Division says that they questioned and recorded a statement for nearly three hours from the lawyer who accompanied Ravindu Sanka de Silva alias Booru Moona, who was the shooter of many murders, to court.
Two days after ‘Booru Moona’ escaped from police custody, his client who resides in Dubai made a phone call and requested that a suspect involved in the Hanwella and Rathgama shootings be handed over to court, the lawyer had told during interrogation, a police officer said. The lawyer had said he later met Booru Moona in Koskelle in Kurunegala on February 26.
It has been revealed in a statement given by the lawyer that he met the suspect while he was going to Dambulla by car for a different need.
On March 15, his client living in Dubai called him and requested that the person known by the alternate name Booru Moona be handed over to court on March 16.The lawyer has also said that even though a motion was presented, the Acting Magistrate did not act on it and the Chief Magistrate was not present that day. He has also stated that the police arrested his client ‘Booru Moona’ the next day on March 17 when he was brought to the Avissawella court.
