Leo Society honours young leaders for outstanding contributions

In a ceremony held at the Presidential Secretariat yesterday (21), the Leo Society, dedicated to fostering youth leadership, celebrated the achievements of 23 young leaders who have demonstrated exceptional skills across various fields in Sri Lanka.

Senior Advisor to the President on National Security and Presidential Chief of Staff Sagala Ratnayaka delivered the keynote speech during the event.

The ceremony aimed to recognize the outstanding leadership of young individuals, including head prefects, deputy head prefects of selected major schools, International Leo Club presidents, secretaries and other officers who have made significant contributions to society.

Keynote speaker Sagala Ratnayaka highlighted the evolving nature of societal contributions by the youth. He emphasized the crucial role of the younger generation in addressing environmental challenges, applauding their increasing awareness of the environment.

Ratnayaka commended the commitment of the youth to environmental causes and stressed the importance of Sri Lanka taking a leading role in global climate mitigation efforts.

Discussing Sri Lanka’s potential in renewable energy, Ratnayaka conveyed the President’s vision for a green and modern economy. He underscored the Government’s determination to establish the right framework for sustainable growth, acknowledging the initial challenges faced during the recovery from a crisis.

Addressing the audience, Ratnayaka expressed gratitude for the support received from the youth, acknowledging their role in the country’s economic recovery. He urged continued collaboration between the Government and the people to ensure a prosperous future for Sri Lanka.

In conclusion, Ratnayaka thanked the organizers, especially Binuja Amaranayake and the Leo Society, for their hard work in organizing the event. He expressed hope for more opportunities to engage with the youth in the future.

The ceremony concluded with a note of appreciation to the principals and educators for their support in fostering programmes like the Leo Society, which actively engages the youth in contributing to the development of the nation.

Among the guests were Power and Energy Minister Kanchana Wijesekera, Youth Services Council President Pasindu Gunaratne, International Leo Society Programme Advisor Dr. Lasantha Gunawardena and Vice Chancellors, Principals, Staff Advisors, Leo Club Advisors, and Chief Student Leaders.
