One of the five liquor manufacturing companies whose licence was suspended due to nonpayment of tax arrears recently has paid the due tax arrears and their licence has been renewed, Excise Department said yesterday.

Finnland Distilleries Corporation Ltd had their licence renewed on Saturday (4) by the Excise Department after they made payment of the due installments according to the payment schedule issued by the Excise Department, the Excise Department spokesperson stated.

As such, Finnland Distilleries Corporation has been granted an extension of their licence to operate until December 31, 2023.

Finnland Distilleries Corporation was one of the two banned liquor manufacturing companies which had reached agreements last week with the Excise Department regarding the payment schedules issued to five banned companies by the Excise Department.

Excise Commissioner General Saman Jayasinghe suspended the licences of Synergy Distilleries Ltd., Finnland Distilleries Corporation Ltd., Wayamba Distilleries, W. M. Mendis & Co. Ltd., and Randenigala Distilleries Lanka Ltd., with effect from November 1, due to their failure to pay tax arrears.

However, even though liquor manufacturing companies make their tax payments based on the payment schedules, they will be still subjected to a weekly payment schedule where if any company fails to settle their weekly payment according to the schedules, their licence would be cancelled, the Excise Department spokesperson said.
