Lightning advisory : Met Department issues red alerts for 6 districts

The Department of Meteorology has issued an advisory for severe lightning in the Eastern and Uva provinces and Polonnaruwa district today (08).

Per the advisory, effective until 11.30 pm, red alerts have been issued for 06 districts and amber alerts to 08 districts. 

The Met Department warns that thundershowers accompanied with severe lightning are likely to occur at several places in Uva and Eastern provinces and in Polonnaruwa district. 

There may be temporary localized strong winds during thundershowers, it added. 

The public is requested to take adequate precautions to minimize damages caused by lightning activity. (Newswire)
