‘Lightning strike at Kotmale-Biyagama transmission caused power outage’

According to the media spokesman for the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Noel Priyantha, a lightning strike at the Kotmale-Biyagama transmission line resulted in the five-hour nationwide power outage that occurred on Saturday (09).

This power outage resulted in internet disruptions as well as water supply disruptions in several areas of the island.

Commenting on this, Media Secretary to the Power and Energy Ministry, Nuwan Gammanpila said the Power and Energy Minister has directed the CEB and the Power and Energy Ministry to launch two independent investigations into this sudden power outage.

The CEB conveyed its regrets for the inconvenience this power loss caused to the public and extended its gratitude to the consumers for their understanding and patience during the power outage.
