The most looked forward Lions’ Rugby Sevens organized by the Trinity College Class of 99 will take place on November 11 (Saturday) at the Bogambara Stadium, it will have12 rugby teams to create a highly successful tournament, each team will be represented by the old boys of schools.
Pool “A” Isipathana, St.Peters, Wesley.Pool “B” D.S.Senanaykae, Trinity, St.Sylvester’s Pool “C” St. Anthony’s, Royal and S. Thomas’ .Vidyartha, Pool “D” Dharmaraja, St. Jospehs’, Kingswood.. The last named teams till to confirm and there will be also a game between Kandy Sports Club and CR& FC before the event ends.
This rugby sevens is organized by the Class of 99 of Trinity College is a celebration of the rich rugby heritage that this school has nurtured over the years. The primary objective of this event is to raise funds for the development of the Centrefor Excellence at Trinity College, Kandy..
KSC – Army game
Kandy SC played their second chucker’s warm-up game at Nittawela grounds on Friday against Army and Kandy SC won the fiercely contested game 42-05. Kandy SC got the better of their rivals with some well taken tries. Both teams are packed with some talented ruggerites, and the winning side knew how to take the upper hand of the gameand did so.
Wariyapola Sri Sumangala out to give of their best Wariyapola Sri Sumangala College, Kandy earlier known as St.Paul’s College are all-out to give their best in rugby. Coming season they will be in the main group.. This school in the field of rugby has produced some good players, from the day they took up the game of rugby. In the year 2016 they were promoted to Division one group ‘C’ and in 2018 promoted to division one Group ‘B’ and this year 2023 they were promoted to Division one group ‘A’. For the 2024 season.season the players who gave a big hand are – Kavidu Manthrigama – Captain, Dilhara Wijesinghe – Vice captain , Saditha Weligama – Vice captain, Lasitha Weerakoon, Sithum Wanigasinghe , Chamalka Basnayake, Anusas Randimal, Yasintha Darmasiri, Chamath Senadeera, Ashen Dissanayaka, Hirusha Chals, ImeshaDhammika, Dulanjana Samarasekara, Rasal Madagedara, M.I.T Rusthi, Rasal Madagedara,Adithya Rathnayaka, Dinidu Wickremasinghe, Aditha Perera, Akalanka Rupasinghe, Shashika Bandara, Mohomed Ifky, Vishwa Gamage, Ramitha Thilakaratne Yasiru Thiwanka. The team was well guided by coached by Roshan Rathnayake, Backs coach Lavanga Perera, Forwards coach Uchitha Jayasuriya, Trainer Idunil Wickramasinghe, POG and MIC Srinath de Silva.
