Little Shasmika sets Guinness Record in Maskeliya
Wigneswaran Shasmika, a Grade One student of St. Joseph’s Tamil College Maskeliya, who walked two kilometers in 14 minutes, set a Guinness record day before yesterday (31). She set this Guinness record by walking a distance of a little more than two kilometers from the Brownlow Estate Hindu Kovil on the Maskeliya – Sri Pada Road to the Maskeliya Police Station in 14 minutes.
Jude Nimalan, representative of the Guinness Records Supervising Committee here was present to oversee the girl walking and setting a Guinness record.
She established the Guinness record with the support of her parents and local residents and the students of the school she studies in and the Maskeliya Police.
Shasmika’s father, S. Wigneswaran, set a record in this country by walking from Jaffna to Colombo a few months ago, so she said she got interested in setting a Guinness record.
After the establishment of the Guinness record, the member of the Sri Lankan Guinness Records Supervising Committee, Jude Nimalan, presented her with a certificate and a medal.
