The 15th Sri Lanka Junior Open Championship, sponsored by Prima and organized by the Sri Lanka Golf Union and the Junior Sub-Committee for Golf, is set to kick off today at the Royal Colombo Golf Club.
This much-anticipated tournament, with a groundbreaking 112 entries from various locations, will wrap up with the awards ceremony on December 22 at 3:30 PM.
Sri Lanka Golf proudly announced a diverse participant lineup, including ten players from India, one from Singapore, and a balanced representation from Anuradhapura, Nuwara Eliya, Digana, and Colombo. This marks the highest number of entries in the history of the Sri Lanka Junior Open Golf Championship.
The three-day competition will showcase four Age Group Divisions: Gold (15 to 18), Silver (13 to 14 Plus), Bronze (11 to 12 Plus), and Copper (10 and Under), with separate categories for boys and girls in each division.
The reigning champion, K Dhanushan, faces tough competition from local talents such as Yannik Kumara, recent Scanwell Junior Tournament champion Jacob Norten, Sri Lanka Junior Stroke Play Champion runner-up Jevhan Sathasivam, and RCGC Champion Reshan Algama, who recently represented Sri Lanka in the 119th Indian Amateur Golf Championship.
In the Girls segment, defending champion Kaya Daluwatte, who performed exceptionally well at the All India Ladies’ Amateur Championship, and Sherin Balasuriya will be challenged by formidable Indian players.
The Silver Division promises fierce competition, featuring Anuradhapura Golf Academy’s Adithya Weerasinghe, Colombo players Keshav Algama, Kaiyen Johnpillai, Thejas Rathieesh Kanth, and other talented Indian players.
The Gold and Silver divisions will unfold over three days, with 18 holes played each day. The Bronze Division will see 14 holes per day, while the Copper Division will engage in nine holes daily throughout the tournament.
