Transport, Highways and Mass Media Minister Dr.Bandula Gunawardhana joining the inauguration of the Homagama Dharma Rashmi Poson Zone said the Poson Zone located in a knowledge-centric area was a success.

He said from NSBM Green University to Mahinda Rajapaksa College was knowledge-centric city and the Poson Zone too was located taking this area as the central point.

Inaugurating Poson Zone, the students and staff of NSBM Green University along with its music department performed the Bhakthi Gee Recital in the presence of the Prime Minister and many other invited guests at the premises of NSBM Green University.

The lantern competition for school students in Poson Zone too was inaugurated by the Prime Minister on the invitation of Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.

The rice and curry dansela attended by a large number of people was also opened by Minister Dr. Gunawardhana at the Mahinda Rajapaksa College premises. The facilities needed to provide food for more than 100,000 people throughout the three days of Poson Zone have been provided in this dansela.

The live Bhakthi Gee Recital presented by National Television together with Development Lotteries Board at the Poson Zone too was inaugurated under the patronage of Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana.

Speaking at the occasion the Minister said “the children of this province are part of our society. All the schools in this area are encompassed and student’s creations are publicly displayed and they will also receive prizes.From Green University to Mahinda Rajapaksa College we have built a knowledge-centric area.

Homagama Dharma Rashmi Poson Zone Dansela

Mahinda Rajapaksa College, the largest secondary school in Asia and the only green university in Sri Lanka and Faculty of Technology of Colombo University, Faculty of Technology of Jayawardenepura University, Institute of Nano Technology, SLINTEC, Text Book Storage Complex, Department of Measurement and Standardization Services, Telecom Data Warehouse are located here.

The Homagama Dharma Rashmi Poson Zone spans 13 kilometres of the Homagama Divisional Secretariat division. Various Dansela’s providing food and beverages for visitors are located within the poson zone. Among them, the biggest dansela is the rice and curry dansela held at the Mahinda Rajapaksa College. For this, with the labor contribution of more than 300 war heroes of our country, the rice dansela is held for three days for more than 100,000 people. We are also displaying various creative talents and creations of children for three days. We invite all to come to Pozan Zone and experience these events”.

Ven. Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thera delivering an anusasana said “This poson zone can be called a royal poson zone. In this regard, I express my gratitude to Minister Dr. Bandula Gunawardhana. Thousands of people get food from the dansela’s in this Pozon Zone. We see a large number of Vesak lanterns. This Homagama Poson Zone is spread over a length of more than 13 kilometres. This poson zone will help to calm and soothe tired people”.

Development Lotteries Board Chairman Ajith Gunaratne Naragala speaking at the event said “a large number of people in this country are engaged in religious activities during Poson. With such poson zones, people gather regardless of caste and religion. There are poson zones all over the country. This Homagama Poson Zone is one of the largest Poson Zones in the country. We are very happy to be able to join this cause.

Bharatha Dodankotuwa, Head of Academics and Quality Management at NSBM Green University said,“with the dawn of poson, the people feel free and happy. When we celebrate the dawn of Poson next year, such programmes should be held in a more grand manner. The NSBM Green University is providing maximum support for that”.

Homagama Sasanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya, the Presidential Secretariat, the Ministry of Transport and Highways, the Western Provincial Council, Homagama Divisional Secretariat, Homagama Pradeshiya Sabha, Homagama Zonal Education office, the Army and the Police are jointly organising the Poson Zone. Lake House is the print and digital media sponsor. The electronic media sponsors are SLRC, ITN and SLBC.

During the first two days of the poson zone Political representatives including Transport State Minister Lasantha Alagiyawanna, MP Gamini Lokuge, Mass Media Ministry Secretary Anusha Palpita, Additional Secretary Umali Wimalaratne, Lake House Chairman Prof. Harendra Kariyawasam, NSBM Green University Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Chaminda Ratnayake, Development Lotteries Board Chairman Ajith Gunaratne Naragala, National Television Chairman Prof.Sudantha Liyanage, ITN Chairman Sudarshan Gunawardena, Lake House Editorial Director Sisira Paranathanthri, ITN Deputy General Manager Sarath Kumara Perera, SLTB Chairman Lalith de Alwis and a large number of diplomatic corps members including ambassadors of many foreign countries participated in this event.
