Long queues near the Battaramulla Passport Office has ended

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles says that 29,578 applications have been received within the first 30 days, after the start of accepting passport applications online. Out of this, 5,294 have submitted applications for the One-day service and 24,285

for the general service. This programme began on June 15 under the patronage of Public Security Minister Tiran Alles.

The Minister said that for the registration of the applicant’s name, it is necessary to visit any of the 51 designated regional secretariat offices and said that the relevant payments for the passport can be made online or by visiting a Bank of Ceylon branch. Rs.15,000 will be charged for the One-day Service and Rs.5,000 for the general service.

After submitting the application through the online system, the passport will be delivered to the applicant by courier within three days and it is possible to receive it within five days. Although this programme has been implemented those who wish could visit the Immigration and Emigration the Department in Battaramulla and submit their applications in person to obtain their passports.

Public Security Minister Tiran Alles said the long queues in front of the Battaramulla Immigration and Immigration Department office have also ended due to this system.

The primary objective of this programme has been to reduce the big rush in obtaining passports and to provide a more people-friendly service to the people.
