Loss making public entities must be divested – MP
United National Party (UNP) Chairman, MP Vajira Abeywardena said that loss-making institutions of the government should no longer be maintained with public funds. He said this while speaking to the media yesterday (2).
“Today, some people are criticizing the support we received from the International Monetary Fund.It should be remembered that the agreement with the International Monetary Fund is a long-term programme. When a country gets a loan, that country should have a stable programme. That is why President Ranil Wickremesinghe is saying that our programme should be implemented through a national policy framework that cannot be changed for 25 years.
The President hopes to implement a short-term programme up to 2026 and a long-term program up to 2032 to achieve future goals,” he added. Abeywardena further said the President aims to take Sri Lanka to a leading position in Asia and the world by the year 2048.
“The President is trying to revive a country that went bankrupt. The entire Sri Lankan public should support it,” he added.
