Magistrate orders CID to obtain blood samples of Schaffter’s mother

Colombo Additional Magistrate Rajindra Jayasuriya yesterday (26) ordered the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to obtain the blood samples of Dinesh Schaffter’s mother. The former Director of the Janashakthi Group died mysteriously in Colombo.

The Additional Magistrate ordered that the blood sample be sent to the Government Analyst to match the DNA of Dinesh Shafter with the DNA of his mother.

The Magistrate made this order considering a request made by the five-member expert medical panel chaired by Dr. Asela Mendis, a pathologist at the University of Colombo.

Already, the Court has sent nearly 50 blood samples to the Government Analyst for DNA reports related to Dinesh Shafter’s death.

It is also revealed that the mother of Dinesh Shafter lives abroad.

The five-member expert medical board investigating whether Dinesh Shafter’s death was a suicide or a murder has exhumed the body based on the evidence gathered in relation to the investigations carried out so far. The second post-mortem examination is currently being conducted at the Karapitiya Hospital in Galle.
