Maha Sangha against opening liquor shop that will defile Homagama’s dignity – Prelate

Ven. Madowita Vajira Buddhi Thera, Chairman of the Homagama Shashanarakshaka Bala Mandalaya, points out that the opening of a liquor store near the town of Homagama can increase crimes in the area.

He said that the people of Homagama took pride in the fact that the town had no liquor or meat shops, but with the establishment of a liquor shop, that pride has been lost and the Maha Sangha of the area is strongly protesting against this.

Ven. Vajira Buddhi Thera said authorities should think more about the future generations when taking decisions. He points out that a large number of people come to Homagama town daily to fulfill their needs and some have arbitrarily issued licences for liquor shops in the hope of profit. The Thera further said that people in the area protested against the opening of such liquor stores and the responsible officials should pay attention to this matter.
