Eleven suspects including a Jailor of the Mahara Prison have been arrested yesterday (17) and Tuesday (16) by the Gampaha Police together with 25grams of the drug, Ice in their possession.
They had been running a network to distribute ‘Ice’ in Gampaha and surrounding areas, police said.
The Mahara Prison Jailor considered to be the mastermind behind this distribution network was taken into custody at Kirindiwita, Gampaha when he had been waiting to hand over 10 grams and 800 grams of the drug Ice based on a request made by his main henchman.
Firstly, the police had arrested a manager of a hotel at Yagodamulla, Minuwangoda with 5 grams and 200 milligrams of heroin in his possession, at Uggalboda, Gampaha. Then the police succeeded in taking into custody, eight suspects who had obtained small packets of Heroin from the suspect. The police had made arrangements to get down to Uggalboda, a suspect named Hassan, resident at Peralanda, Ragama from whom the hotel manager obtains the narcotic. The suspect Hassan had arrived at Uggalboda to hand over the drug to the hotel manager and police had found 5 grams and 500 milligrams of Ice his possession. The jailor had come to Kirindiwita to take the drug which had been ordered through the suspect named Hassan and had been taken into custody there.
Police said that it was revealed during investigations that the Jailor works at the Mahara Prison and that he too was strongly addicted to ‘Ice’.
