Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Technical Committee Chairman Aravinda de Silva yesterday confirmed that Jayawardene has agreed to work with the Sri Lanka U-19 players.

De Silva said that Jayawardena will help prepare the team for the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled to be held in the West Indies next year.

Jayawardena, of course, will not work as a full time coach but is expected to provide his support to the Sri Lanka Under-19 Coaching Staff in an attempt to prepare them for the major event.

Jayawardene, who is the present coach of the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mumbai Indians Team and Chairman of the National Sports Council, has informed the Cricket Technical Committee that he will be working with the Under-19 Team on a voluntary basis.

Jayawardene is expected to return to Sri Lanka soon after the completion of the IPL in September.

Meanwhile, the National Cricket Selectors have already picked 75 cricketers and are going through a residential training programme at the Asgiriya Stadium and at the Pallekele Stadium in Kandy.
