Athlete and six times school, Divisional and Zonal Athletic Champion, Ceylon Track and field 2014 under 12 Champion, John Tarbet School and National Youth Sports Festival Athletic Coloursman Welimullegedara Mahesh Prasanna Bandara has brought honour and fame to his two schools Royal College Horana and Taxila Central College Horana with his deeds in the athletic field.

Mahesh Prasanna the athletic star from HoranaMahesh was born on 13th April 2003 and initially admitted to Royal College Horana and he came under the school athletic coaches Mrs.Chandrika and Mrs.Sameera and in the 2013 school sports meet he became the under ten Athletic Champion by sweeping the board in 75 metres and High Jump and Long Jump and in the Divisional and Zonal Educational Meets doing the same events he became the Champion and at the Provincial Meet he qualified from all three events and got Merit Certificates and in the following year too he represented in the same events and became the school, Divisional and Zonal Champion in the under eleven age group

Same year he participated for the Colombo Track and Field Club Meet and won the 80 and 100 metres and Long Jump and adjudged as the under eleven champion. Then in the same year participating for the under 12 Category at the John Tarbet Junior Meet he bettered the earlier timing of 12.4 seconds in the 80 metres and he clocked 11.7 seconds and won a Medal and a Merit Certificate.

Then in the following year in the under thirteen age group at the school meet he won the Long Jump 100 and 200 metres and became the school Champion and doing the same events he became the Divisional and Zonal Champion and at the Provincial Meet in 100 metres he received a Merit Certificate.

In 2016 too he was the school under 14 champion and as usual he became the Divisional and Zonal Educational Champion and at the Provincial Meet he got a Merit Certificate for 80 metres hurdles and at the John Tarbet Junior Meet he bettered former 13.3 seconds timing to 13.0 seconds at the 80 meters hurdles and in the same year at the Senior Tarbet Meet he clocked 12.2 seconds in the 80 metres hurdles and former timing in the meet was 13.5 seconds.

He was admitted to Taxila Central College Horana and he immendiatly came under the coach Indika,

At the 2018 Taxila Sports Meet he won Long Jump, High Jump and second in 100 metres and at the John Tarbet Meet he did the event in 14.2 seconds and got a Merit and earlier qualifying timing was 14.5 and at the Provincial Meet he equalled the record and in the 2018 All Island Schools Meet he won a Bronze for 100 metres hurdles and in the 2019 school meet he was the under 16 champion by winning Long Jump 100 metres and 110 hurdles events. Same year in the National Youth Sports Festival Meet he won the 100 metre hurdles, nnd Long Jump and received colours.
