Maheshika the swimming star from Mahamaya

She achieved this historic feat in the year 2019 and Maheshika started swimming when she was a student in the Grade one class of the school and her Swimming Coach is U.H. Sugath, an experienced Swimming Coach of Kandy.

Maheshika won the Under 14 Central Province Swimming championship in 2014 and the Under 16 Central Province Championship in 2016, and the under 18 Swimming Championship in the year 2018. Her winning events were 50 Metreand 100 Metre. Butterfly, 100 Metre. Freestyle and 200 Metre. Individual Medley..She took part at the Annual two Mile Sea swim from 2014 to 2018 and in the year 2015 she secured the third place as her highest achievement.

In the other Sea swim events she finished within the first fifteen swimmers out of over Four hundred Swimmers. At the All Island Schools swimming events she became Champion from Under 15 to Under 18 age group at the Central Province swimming meets and she repeated her outstanding performances when she became the swimming champion in the same age group at the All Island Swimming meet and her winning events were 50 metres. 100 metres. and 200 metres. Butterfly events.

Mahishika represented Sri Lanka at the age group Swimming Championship held in Bangkok, Thailand in 2015 and at the 9th Asian Swimming championship held in South Sumathra in 2016 unsuccessfully. She secured the third place in the 100 M. Butterfly event at the South Asian Aquatic championship in the Under 16 age category held in Colombo in 2016.

When her School Mahamaya Girls’ School became All Island Swimming champions at the 45th Sri Lanka Schools swimming Meet for the 20th consecutive year her team obtained 529 points and Visakha Vidyalaya, Colombo came a close second collecting 523 points while the third place was taken by Lyceum International School Collecting 274 points.
