Mahinda Pethiyagoda to be felicitated today
Old Dharmarajian cricketer Mahinda Pethiyagoda will be felicitated today at at Grand Kandyan Hotel in addition to other seven personalities of the respective Buddhist schools at a ceremony organised by Henry Steel Olcott Foundation and Dharmaraja Cricket Foundation.
Mahinda Pethiyagoda who was later appointed match referee of SLC outstanding cricketer at school from 1970 to 1974 and 1973 he was College under 19 captain .His best achievement was match bag of 12 for 84 vs Ananda and also 7 for 26 against Maliyadeva.
Pethiyagoda represented Sri Lanka Board President Cricket X1 against touring Indian team captained by Ajith Wadekar in 1974 also represented Kandy District cricket team in early 80’ s .He also played for Bloomfield and Kandy CC and represented Ceylon Tobacco and Richard Pieris Company at Mercantile Cricket.
The talented cricketer Pethiyagoda also played for Sri Lanka schools team against Tamil Nadu CA in 1972-73 and captained Central Province Schools cricket Association team Vs Indian Railway Cricket X1.
In addition Mahinda Pethiyagoda will be the chief Guest tomorrow at Henry Steel Olcott Cricket tournament finals at Asgiriya Cricket Stadium.
Meanwhile Rt Major General Sunil Dayananda an outstanding sportsman of Maliyadeva ,outstanding cricket coach of Mahinda Galle Lucky Arambawela, Rahula old boy and present Sports Medicine Unit Director General Dr Lal Ekanayake ,outstanding cricketer of Dharmapala Pannipitiya W.L Withanage, Rt Major General Bimal Widhanage outstanding sportsman of Dharmasoka, excellent Nalanda old boy Judge of court of appeal Sobitha Rajakaruna and former Cricket Board President and present National sport council member and old Anandian Ana Punchihewa will be felicitated at the ceremony.
The present boys tournament of eight schools was played yesterday while old boys eight a side side game between Dharmaraja, Dharmapala, Rahula, Maliyadeva, Dharmasoka, Rahula, Ananda and Nalanda will be played today and tomorrow at Asgiriya Cricket Stadium.
