Maithri challenged at SLFP meeting

A tense situation prevailed at the SLFP headquarters yesterday during a meeting  with the SLFP candidates vying for the upcoming Local government election from the Gampaha district presided over by party chairman former President Maithripala Sirisena.

When the former President was speaking about the strategies that should be followed to ensure the victory for the party from the district, SLFP Gampaha district organizer Ajith Basnayake interrupted him.

Basnayake said that the party president should stop dividing the party two party organizers from Habaraduwa and Ratnapura are directly involved in creating divisions within the party

He said that the party leader should stop creating rifts within the party.

He asked the chairman as to why an acting General Secretary to the party was appointed. The former President said that he faced 400 cases. He asked why a ceremony was organized to appoint an acting General Secretary until General Secretary returns to the country and it is not ethical.

Basnayake asked whether such a ceremony was organized when Dayasiri Jayasekera was appointed acting president of the Party when the party chairman Maithripala Sirisena left for South Korea for a summit recently.
