Maldivian to operate flights to Ratmalana
Maldives flag carrier Maldivian has decided to restart flights to Sri Lanka. Island Aviation, the company that manages Maldives’ national airline said Maldivian Airlines will conduct flights from Male’ to Colombo International Airport (Ratmalana). It is the closest Sri Lankan airport to Maldives.
When Ratmalana opened up to South Asian countries last year, Maldivian Airlines started discussions on whether they would start that route again. Island Aviation said they decided to commence operations to Sri Lanka as there is a large number of Maldivians in the country. Maldivians flights will make trips to Sri Lanka easy for Maldivians, they said.
Currently only four flights are scheduled to Sri Lanka; flights on March 27, 29, and 31, in addition April 3. However they plan to increase the number of flights depending on demand.
Tickets to Sri Lanka can be booked via Maldivian’s website and the mobile application as well. This will see the commencement of international flights from Colombo Ratmalana (IATA Code RML) after a lapse of more than 50 years. Several other airlines have also expressed an interest in operating flights to Ratmalana.
