Maligawatte Youth enter final after 27 years
Maligawatte Youth Sports Club beat Java Lane by one gold to nil to enter the final of the City League Cup Football Tournament. They will meet Colombo Football Club in the final on August 6 (Sunday) at City League Ground at 3.30 p.m.
Incidentally Maligawatte Youth have entered a football final after 27 years having last done so in 1996 by entering the Vijaya Kumaratunga Memorial Trophy final at Sugathadasa Stadium against Saunders Sports Club which they lost 0-1.
During the last few years Maligawatte Youth did not fare well but under the guidance of former Amy Skipper Mohamed Izzadeen Maligawatte Youth are have regained their past glory. The winning goal was scored by Mohamed Sarfan in the 74th minute after the scores were nil all at half time it was encouraging to see 2300 spectators at the match despite Sri Lanka Football been suspended by FIFA.
The winners of the City Football League Tournament will be awarded Rs. 150,000 while the runners up Rs. 100,000. Iin addition outstanding players will receive prizes awarded by president of City Football League R. Puvanendran.
