Justice, Prison Affairs and Constitutional Reforms Minister Dr. Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe said that a detailed proposal will be submitted to the Cabinet regarding the house and 15 acres of land located in Malwana and immediate steps will be taken to use it for an effective development project.

The Minister expressed these views to the media to inform the media about further actions to be taken regarding the Malwana house, which was placed under the Justice Ministry due to the absence of an owner, when he arrived at the place to monitor the location of the house on Wednesday (21).

The Minister said, “It must be said that this destroyed house is the subject of a controversial case in this country. Around 2015, when the case was filed in the Court in this regard, all the persons mentioned in the deeds related to this land stated that this land does not belong to them. Because of that statement, a paper was submitted to the Cabinet and this land was taken over by the Government.

At that time, we proposed to use this house as a research and training centre for international judges. It did not happen with the recent change of Government. Now the proceedings in this case have been completed. This 15 acre land has been handed over to the Justice Ministry. Therefore, we are restoring these buildings, so that they can be used in the future. Unfortunately, during the Aragalaya time, even the buildings owned by the Government were burnt and destroyed”.

The Minister of Justice answering questions raised by the media said, “The Online Safety Act was passed by the Public Security Ministry. The Cabinet has given approval to amend it as it has deficiencies. The recommendations of the Supreme Court regarding the Anti-Terrorism Bill have been received and we will act accordingly. This country will not be a part of any other country or colony. We will not allow it.

When agreements are signed between two countries, they are signed in a way that is important to both countries. According to the existing law of our country, this country cannot be made a part of another country.

The Presidential Election will definitely be held in October. According to the current situation, the Parliamentary Elections should be held next year, but the President has the power to dissolve Parliament and hold an election.”

The Minister also mentioned that there should be no doubt that the Presidential Election will be held at the right time.

Justice Secretary Nihal Ranasinghe and other officials joined this observation tour on Wednesday (21).
