Man arrested at BIA with 26,600 duty-free cigarettes

A 40-year-old man was arrested at the arrival terminal of Bandaranaike International Airport early this morning (13) while attempting to smuggle 26,600 duty-free cigarettes into the country, Police said.

The suspect was found in possession of 133 cartons of cigarettes during a search conducted by officers attached to the Airport Unit of the Police Narcotics Bureau.

Police identified the suspect as a resident of Marawila.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Police Narcotics Bureau and the Airport Police. (Newswire)
