A senior officer of the Police Media Spokesman Office said the Katunayake Airport Police found a revolver and a pistol in the luggage
of a passenger who came from France on May 2. This 65-year-old passenger residing in Colombo 15 had arrived at Katunayake Airport on May 2 from Paris, France by an Oman Airlines flight.
However, another passenger had mistakenly carried luggage that the suspect had brought, and later that passenger was found by the Airport Security officers, by monitoring the security cameras. Later, when the airport security officers checked the bag through a scanner, it was found that there was a pistol and a revolver in it. Katunayake Airport Police officers arrested the suspect and the luggage with the weapons.
After further inspection of these weapons that were taken to the police, the OIC of the Katunayake Airport Police Station observed that these were made of plastic, and the passenger was released on bail. These two weapons have been referred to the Colombo Police Field Force Headquarters for further investigation.
