Man arrested for spitting at PHI

A 48-year-old man was arrested by the Police for spitting on and obstructing the duties of a Public Health Inspector (PHI) in the Puskuladeniya area in Giriulla.

Police Spokesperson Senior DIG Ajith Rohana stated that the person had spat at the PHI who had visited a COVID patient’s house to carry out his duties.

The suspect was to be produced before the Kuliyapitiya Magistrate’s Court yesterday. The Police Media Spokesman said the suspect had been under the influence of liquor at the time of the incident.A similar incident took place on December 2, 2020 in Atalugama. That suspect was sentenced to six years in prison by the Court after charges were filed against him.

The Giriulla Police are conducting further investigations.
