Man arrested with foreign currency
A suspect involved in an illegal money exchange racket was arrested with a stack of foreign currency notes worth Rs.10.68 million by Police Special Task Force Kokmadura unit officers yesterday (27).
Among the banknotes found were 18,208 US Dollars, 20,035 Euros, 300 Indian Rupees, 500 Saudi Riyals, 40 Kuwaiti Dinars, 10 Singapore Dollars, 645 British Pounds, 18,500 Dirhams, 100,000 Japanese Yen and 1,000 Qatar Riyals.
The arrested is a 27-year-old resident of Galbokke,Weligama.
The raid was conducted according to the information received by the Police Special Task Force that this person is involved in an illegal money exchange racket.
This suspect has been running this racket for a long time. The suspect has been handed over to the Weligama Police Station along with the money for further investigation regarding this racket.
A team of officers under the OIC of the Kokmadura camp SI Kariyapperuma conducted this raid on the advice of Police Special Task Force Commandant DIG Waruna Jayasundara.
