Man arrested with narcotics inside Panadura Court brought for detainee

Police said that a person who came to the Panadura Magistrate’s Court with four leaves of tobacco and two packs of Ice hidden under his clothes was arrested on Wednesday (8).

Police said that it was a 39-year-old resident of Panadura, Modera area who was arrested. A Prison Officer in charge of detainee who are presented in court had become suspicious of this individual. During an inspection conducted by him together with Police Sergeant Jayaratne, four pieces of tobacco about 18 inches in length and two two small packets containing Ice hidden in a black polythene bag were discovered.

A police officer said that it is suspected that these may have been brought to be given to a detainee being brought from the prison to the court.

It is said that two cases against the suspect were scheduled to be heard at the Panadura Chief Magistrate’s Court and the Additional Magistrate’s Court today, and that the suspect was present.

The suspect was to be produced before the Panadura Magistrate’s Court. Investigations are being conducted under the leadership of Panadura Headquarters Police Inspector Upul Priyankara Nawulla.
