Man in extortion case granted bail

An individual who was arrested by the Criminal Investigations Department for allegedly phoning former First Lady Ayoma Rajapaksa and trying to extort Rs. 1 million, has been enlarged on bail by Colombo Fort Magistrate Thilina Gamage yesterday. The arrested person is a resident of Salamulla in Kolonnawa.

It has been found in the investigation by the Criminal Investigation Department that this suspect had made 27 calls to Mrs. Ayoma Rajapaksa.”

The Private Secretary of the former President had told him that she was the wife of the former President. However, the former First Lady had got a number of telephone calls from the suspect even after that,” the CID added.Accordingly, the Secretary had lodged a complaint with the Criminal Investigation Department. The Magistrate fixed further inquiries for October 6.
